Meet The Team
MARK COOK
Founder & Director
Solicitor

Mark Cook was born and bred in Sunderland. He studied law at Leicester and then returned to Sunderland where he completed the remainder of his training. He worked for a local firm at their Sunderland office and was the Partner running their Newcastle office for several years before starting Mark Cook Solicitors in early 2006.
Mark’s vision was to create a progressive new law firm for Sunderland and the North East that prides itself on an informal and relaxed approach to an area of business that is often seen as daunting and unapproachable. Mark’s modern and friendly attitude to the law carves the way for a new line in client service from Solicitors. His specialist areas are Property and Wills & Probate.
Mark is married and lives in Sunderland.
RICHARD WALLS
Director
Head of New build

Richard Walls is a Director in the firm. He is a Chartered Legal Executive with over 20 years conveyancing experience. Richard heads our New Build department which specialises in acting for clients buying New Build Properties from builders and he provides expert and independent advice to buyer clients and ensures they are properly advised on all aspects of a new build purchase
LEE GILDER
Director
Head of Residential and Commercial Property

Lee is our Head or Residential and Commercial Conveyancing and is an experienced Property Solicitor who deals with all aspects of both Freehold and Leasehold residential transactions, together with all aspects of Commercial Property transactions, acting for both Landlords and Tenants on Lease transactions as well as dealing with Lease assignments.
Lee also specialises in Bridging Finance and all other types of commercial finance. Lee is also able to assist with the purchase or sale of a business together.
Outside work, Lee loves spending time with his kids.
Demi Laws
Lawyer

Demi is a Paralegal specialising in Private Client work. She joined the firm in May of 2022 and can assist clients with their conveyancing, wills, Lasting Powers of Attorney and Probate needs.
Demi has 9 years of experience in the legal sector having spent time at a large regional firm as well as smaller local firms.
Demi is currently studying for her law degree in her spare time.
Daniel Parker
Lawyer

Daniel joined in 2021 working in the Property Department. Daniel is currently completing his CILEX qualification with the hope of becoming a Chartered legal executive. Daniel is an integral member of the team and has a strong repour with his growing client base.
Outside of work, Daniel enjoys cycling, hiking and spending time with friends and family.
Danyal Hussain
Solicitor

Danyal joined in 2022 as the firm's first Trainee, qualifying as a Solicitor in November 2023. Danyal obtained his LLB Law Degree at the University of Sunderland in 2017 before completing his Legal Practice Course and gaining a Masters-in-Law. Danyal works in the Property department working on a full range of transactions.
Outside of work, Danyal enjoys playing football and spending time with his loved ones.
Megan Montgomery
Legal Assistant

Megan joined the firm in 2019 as an apprentice and is now a legal assistant in the New Build department. Megan has a very welcoming approach to clients and work colleagues. Megan has a positive attitude toward work and is always happy to help.
Outside of work Megan enjoys spending time with family and friends and attending concerts.
Anne Richardson
Paralegal

Anne joined the firm in November 2020, as part of the new build team. Anne has an extensive knowledge of New Build Conveyancing which includes Leasehold and Freehold matters.
Anne has over forty years’ experience working within the legal sector, where she has progressed through the ranks of secretarial staff to fee earner, with hard work, dedication and education, to the position she now holds today.
When away from the office Anne likes to spend time with her family and friends and going to Rock Concerts.
Adam Lawson
Paralegal

Graduated from University in 2015 with a degree in English Language & Literature, before alternating to a career in law. Worked almost exclusively in New Build in this time
Joined the firm in 2021 as part of the New Build team; specialising in Help to Buy and other First Home Buyer schemes
Away from the Office; as well as being a published author, Adam can often be found at a concert or music festivals
Kate Grabham
Practice Manager

Kate is the Practice Manager joining the firm in March 2023 and has over 10 years’ managerial experience.
She oversees the day to day operations of the office including helping manage accounts, business support and HR.
Outside of work Kate enjoys gardening and spending time with her family.
Graeme Tennant
Post Completion Lawyer

Graeme graduated from the University of Teesside 2006 with an LL.B (Hons).
Graeme joined the firm in 2014, and is responsible for dealing with post completion registrations with the Land Registry.
Layla Hutchinson
Apprentice

Layla joined the Firm in August 2022 as a Business Administration Apprentice and is a key member of the office team.
On a day-to-day basis, Layla deals with the general administration tasks such as filing, scanning and answering phone calls. Layla also assists all departments with their administration tasks.
Outside of work Layla is a Sunderland AFC season ticket holder and is often seen at games, both home and away, supporting The Black Cats. Layla also enjoys spending time with her friends and loved ones.
